MJ's STORY

I always knew from a young age that I enjoyed being in the kitchen—whether assisting my mom and grandmother growing up by washing potatoes or peeling carrots. I was so excited to be a part of the process. Here I am now, knowing that the kitchen has always simply been my ZEN zone. From creating goodness to the aromas filling the air, it brought an excitement I couldn’t fully express.

Fast forward from being a little girl to a working professional woman in the social services field—my heart was torn. I was in a career I loved, but it was not my passion… not like the way I love to cook, bake, and cater events. Hosting small gatherings with friends and family just so they could enjoy MJ's Savory Bitez brought me so much joy.

I would always hear, “Girl, you need to start a business—this is really good. You need to get your name out there,” and the list went on and on. At the time, I was nervous—scared, to say the least. There were so many unknown factors, except for the fact that I knew deep down inside I was a great chef. I would often say, “I would love to have my own business one day, but where do I even start?”

Then a wise friend said, “Well, MJ, you have to start somewhere, even if it’s small. I need you to have the confidence I have in you—for yourself.”

Then my daughter said, “Mommy, if you had a food truck, I would come every day to buy your food because it’s just that good.” My response was, “Really, chocolate bunny?” She said, “Yeah, Mommy. I’m not just saying it because you’re my mommy. All your food makes my tummy really happy.” I just about died laughing.

So, I decided to do what I love and love what I do—bringing joy to every bite consumed. I am stepping out on faith, passion, and the big-back-ness I have within.

Now presenting MJ’s Savory Bitez.
